Macbeth Act 1: Reflection and Response

Answer the following and post to your blog as TWO journal entries for Act 1 of Macbeth. Be sure to craft unique and engaging titles.
Create a new category, ‘Macbeth’, and categorize all Macbeth journal entries for addtion to your blog’s menu.

You may work in groups of 3 for this assignment:

POST #1

  • List in separate columns the descriptions of Macbeth given by each of the following characters: the bleeding captain, Duncan, the other thanes, Lady Macbeth, and Macbeth himself. Underneath each column, note whether or not you agree with the description. Add a final column to list your own impressions of him thus far.
  • Reread or listen to a recording of Macbeth’s soliloquy at the beginning of Act 1, Scene 7. How does this soliloquy add to your understanding of Macbeth or alter your opinion of him (based on your response to the first question and what occurs throughout the first act)? Share your ideas with a partner and explain your opinions with detail from the play.

POST #2

  • Take the role of either Banquo or Lady Macbeth’s lady-in-waiting, you have observed changes in Macbeth’s or Lady Macbeth’s behaviour respectively. Write to a friend, describing your observations, expressing your curiosity about these changes, and speculating about causes and future behaviour(s).
